Give-Away at Feathers in the Nest

Jennifer over at Feathers in the Nest is haveing a giveaway which ends June 1. Check out the link for details. By posting a notice on my blog I am getting an additional chance to win. But I am always torn about doing this. Do I really want more people knowing about it and maybe reducing my odds???? Hmmm.

SGR Pincushion Exchange Part 2

Here is the GREAT pincushion I got as part of the Sampler Guild of the Rockies pin cushion exchange. It was from Sandra one of our newer members. Didn't she do a nice job and I love the added touch of the pearl buttons and the crochet trim!

Keep checking the SGR website for a slide show of all the pincushions as part of the exchange! As of today I have not seen it, but when it is posted it should be a nice show.

Sampler Guild of the Rockies Pin Cushion Exchange

Last Saturday was the final meeting of the year for the Sampler Guild of the Rockies. It is also when the guild has a birthday party and this year it was 18!! Always a fun time with door prizes, gifts for all and special opportunities to buy limited edition items (if you renew your membership by this meeting). We do not meet again until September, but last year the guild had a Retreat in June and will again this year. A fun all day stitching event - to be talked about at a later date.

Today I am posting pictures of the pincushion I made for the exchange. I used the silicone cupcake cups as the base.
I wanted to use a chart and instruction from the booklet I purchased a year or so ago called Cupcakes Galore (I believe) but could not find it in the packed/unpacked/Goodness knows where anything is of my studio. So I "punted". Having made similar things before, I had a good idea on how to proceed. So I put some crushed walnuts in the base for weight. Made a matboard circle and gathered my stitched piece around it while stuffing it with 100% wool. I then tacky glued it in place. Next day it popped off, so I used E6000. Next day it popped off. Now I was starting to get close on time when this was due and a plan "B" was out of the question. And I was REALLY wishing I knew where that cupcake pincushion booklet I bought was!

Then I had an O DUH moment and guessed that the silicone was kind of a non stick thing. Off to google and I discovered it would be best to use a silicone glue (did I say duh already?). So I did and 24hours later IT DID NOT POP OFF!!!

Now, I had planned to glue cording around the base and some cute buttons on the cupcake cup petals, but it would not have 24 hours to dry. So I came up with this:

A quick trip to Archivers and I found the perfect button brads and some fun heart shaped hat pins. The recipient really liked her pincushion and I was happy to hear that.

Next I will post a picture of the great pincushion I received (as soon as I take a picture).

Root Canal Part 2

Well last Friday I had the root canal from a week earlier finished. Recovery was sooo much better. On the first one I did have to call the Dr. for some pain meds stronger than advil. Needed them in the evening only a couple of days. But the part two was wonderfully less painful. Mostly the shot areas and I only needed advil Friday night.

Looks like blogger lost some stuff after May 11 since I see my RAK comments are gone, and I thought I had posted on my blog between then and now--but not sure on that one.

Not much new here, but I hope to post pictures tonight of the pin cushion I made for my Sampler Guild of the Rockies 1st annual pin cushion exchange. I also need to take a picture of the great pin cushion I received. I think there will be a slide show on the Guild's website of all the pincushions. I will update you all on that too.

RAK

A while back (in March I believe) I received a fun surprise in my post office box from KimV of The Wooley Stitcher. She had been my Valentine Swap sender and while she was out and about she saw this great refrigerator magnet and thought of me. So she bought it and mailed it to me right out of the blue!

As soon as we were (moderately) settled into our new home I placed it on the fridge. It had to go on the side since I discovered that our stainless refrigerator doors are not magnetized. :(

And did I tell you she sent it in a handmade card (by her) with my favorite color (peach) and I love peach with green too!! I am sorry the picture is not dead on color wise, but it is sure pretty!
What nice folks you "meet" in blogland!

Recovering nicely, thank you

Just blogging (checking) in.

It has been 24 hours since the root canal and so far so good as long as I take three advil every six hours. Which a slight twinge just now and a check of the watch says it has be 6 hours and 45 minutes. So off to the medicine cabinet I go.

I have been pilot stitching for an EGA Group Correspondence course and I am not supposed to post pictures. It is very nice so far and we got to choose our own colors if we wanted or stick with the designer's choice. I also got new glasses yesterday (and went to the dermatologist, so Friday was medical day for Mary). I am still adjusting to the reading part of the glasses and so I have not stitched much since Thursday.

I do need to take a break from the EGA project to finish my pin cushion for the Sampler Guild of the Rockies next meeting which includes a pin cushion exchange. The meeting is next Saturday, so I should have a stitching picture to post by then unless I find some other stitching to talk about in the meantime.

TUSAL - May and Miss Maddie

Well, the ort jar is still in a box, but I did do some stitching this month and I have an ort pile (rather small, but orts none the less).

The dark green ribbon that almost looks black is really a nice green, but my lighting was not so great for this picture. I am still trying to find a good photo spot in the new house. I also put in a large paperclip to give you an idea of the size of the pile.

Now on to Miss Maddie, who seems to be enjoying the new house and her view out the front door. Note she has brought rabbit to enjoy the scene and fresh air too. I have sad news to report on "duck". Regular readers may recall that I replaced her duck after 16 months because it finally developed a seam rip and all my sewing stuff was packed. It had lost the "honk" many months ago, so I decided Maddie would get a new duck at the new house. She did, it lasted two weeks and developed a rip!! I did notice when I bought it that it did not appear to be quite the same duck as the old one and I guess I was correct. So now she has two ducks in the hospital and none to play with! But she likes rabbit too.
Happy Stitching EVERYONE!!
